Common Questions About Our Energy Services

Frequently Asked Questions

Honest. Helpful. Clear.

What is a Home Energy Assessment?

A Home Energy Assessment is a detailed look at how your home uses—and loses—energy. Depending on your home, we may run tests like a Blower Door or Duct Blaster, check attic insulation, and pinpoint leaks. The right tests are decided once we’re on-site.

Is this really at no cost to me?

If you’re eligible through your electric provider, the energy assessment is provided at no cost. Many upgrades—like sealing and some insulation—are fully covered. We’ve been doing this for over a decade and have never charged for work covered by the program. Still have questions? Reach out and we’ll confirm your eligibility.

Who qualifies for your services?

Eligibility is determined through a no-cost Home Energy Assessment. Factors such as your home’s age, size, and energy usage are considered. If your home meets the criteria, you may qualify for energy efficiency upgrades.

What kinds of upgrades do you offer?

Our focus is on real, performance-based improvements that impact your energy use. Depending on what your home needs, that could include air sealing, duct sealing, and insulation upgrades—all designed to improve comfort, reduce waste, and lower energy bills.

How long does an energy assessment take?

Every home is different, but most assessments take 2 to 4 hours. Larger or older homes may take a little longer. We’ll explain each step as we go, so you’re never in the dark—just clear, efficient progress toward a more comfortable, energy-smart home.

My home is far from your office. Can I still get an assessment?

Absolutely. Your location won’t keep us from helping you. We serve homes across a wide area and are happy to come to you. We may just ask for some flexibility in scheduling so we can make the most of our time on the road—but we’re committed to making it happen.

Is this a one-time service?

The Home Energy Assessment is a one-time service. However, the energy efficiency upgrades installed as a result are designed to provide long-term benefits.

How much do energy improvements cost?

Costs vary depending on the specific improvements needed. Many upgrades may be covered through utility incentive programs, reducing or eliminating out-of-pocket expenses for eligible homeowners.

What are Utility Incentive Programs?

Utility incentive programs are designed to reduce energy waste and ease demand on the power grid—especially during peak times like the hottest days of summer. They’re backed by federal rebates and state requirements that ensure electric providers invest in energy-saving upgrades for customers. These programs help lower overall energy use, reduce strain on the grid, and keep costs down for everyone.

How long do the utility incentive programs last?

Utility incentive programs are ongoing but may have limited funding. It’s advisable to take advantage of these programs promptly, as availability can change.

What’s the catch?

There is no catch. The programs are designed to improve energy efficiency, benefiting both homeowners and the energy grid. Our assessments and eligible upgrades are provided without hidden fees or obligations.

How can you offer "no cost" energy upgrades?

Upgrades are funded through utility incentive programs and regulatory mandates aimed at reducing energy consumption. These programs cover the costs to encourage homeowners to implement energy-saving measures.

Will this affect my utility bill or service?

Yes, positively. Implementing energy efficiency upgrades can lead to lower utility bills due to reduced energy consumption. Your service quality remains unaffected.

Do I have to be home during the installation?

Yes. For safety and access reasons, we require homeowners to be present during assessments and installations. This also allows us to discuss findings and recommendations directly with you.

How do I prepare for my assessment?

To help things go smoothly, make sure all rooms, air vents, and your heating and cooling units are easy to access. We’ll also need to get into your attic and crawl space. Please secure any pets, and have your utility account number ready for our auditor when they arrive.
